Who Khaleesi Is, and What Happened

Khaleesi is six years old — sweet, smart, and full of energy, with a love for music and dancing. Anyone who knows her will tell you the same thing: she has a way of brightening the room, and an empathy for others that's rare at any age.

While at school in Puerto Rico, Khaleesi was struck by a ball near the back of her neck. The impact caused her to lose sensation and have difficulty moving. She was hospitalized right away, and her medical team has been evaluating her closely — including whether she needs specialized treatment at a facility in Florida.

This has been sudden and frightening for her family. One day she was a fully mobile, dancing six-year-old; the next, they were facing hospital stays, possible medical transport, and a recovery none of them chose but all of them are showing up for.

The fundraiser her family started is meant to cover the practical weight of all this: medical transport, hospital expenses, travel, housing, meals, caregiving, and rehabilitation during her recovery.
